For the payment of RGCO jackets, $19, and collection of photos, it has currently been extended till next week.
Pract schedule for term 1 week1:
thurs: 3.15pm - 5.45pm
Fri: 2.30pm - 6.30pm

the above schedule may be subjected to changes. But no worries i will update the changes on the blog.
The collection may be through shiyun though this is tentative.

However, you are not allowed to cancel your orders as it will affect the pricing of the jackets.
Please also check this blog frequently for updates if you haven't paid for the jackets. Thank you.

Hey seniors, please take note of the following important announcements.

RGCO JACKET PAYMENT: $19. We need you all to pay before school reopens.

ALTERNATIVE 1: There will be CCAO tmr, and i'll be in e101, from 8.30am to around 1pm, so i would really appreciate it if you guys can come down to RGS to make your payment, also to support tanbo during performance.

ALTERNATIVE 2: After 1.30pm, I can actually meet you all at the various mrt stations: Orchard, somerset, dhoby ghaut, city hall, raffles place, Tanjong Pagar, Outram Park, Tiong Bahru, Redhill, Queenstown, Chinatown, Little INdia, Farrer Park, Boon Keng, Potong Pasir, Serangoon, Kovan. Then you guys can pass me the $19.

ALTERNATIVE 3: East Coast Park on Thursday if you happen to be near there.

Now the payment from Juniors are a lot less than 50% and we won't be able to order the jackets unless we have at least 50% of payment. So please do try to make it for one of the alternatives and sms me to confirm which one you can BY TONIGHT. This is compulsory.

I apologise for this rush but i just got the info that we need the $$ urgently today.

Price: $19 +/- (Depending on how many orders we get, so if more people buy it, the lower the price may be, SO BUY IT!)
Measurements: Size L half chest is around 60cm. So you can roughly estimate the measurement for smaller sizes. Starts from XXS which is around 16 inches (could be +/- 1 inch but should affect too much). With every increase in size it would be 1 inch. Thus size L would be 20 inches.

i think you guys would have heard by now that delia, leevoon, michellin and I are running for chair for 2010. Don't worry, I am not here to advertise for myself or go on and on about my goals and visions for next year. xD Actually, I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you in awesome TANBO! who have given me lots of support and encouragment throughout the years. I am extremely honoured to be given this opportunity to run for chair, and I grateful that all of you are willing to give me this chance. For RHD we will be performing yaozu, so please practise at home so that we don't die when prac restarts. Not all of us would be able to perform but I will only inform you who is performing when prac restarts...so everyone please prepare yourselves!

Racial Harmony Day performance

RHD will be held on 24 July. The current plan is that we will be play either both 瑶族舞曲 (dazu piece) and 龙腾虎跃 (chuida piece - tanbo not involved), or only one of these two songs. However if we are playing the orchestral piece not everyone may be able to perform because it will probably be in the hall. But everyone is still expected to be prepared for the song, even though you may not end up performing.

Excuse letters PLEASE hand in ASAP. Especially if you have missed many pracs due to going overseas on holiday. Try to hand in all excuse letters (including for July) by the end of this month or else I don't know whether I can still accept.

Hey tanbo, due to the H1N1 thing, there will be some change in plans.

1. Prac this week (week 1) will be cancelled.

2. Performance during this friday's two hall assemblies is also cancelled.

3. Sec2 SPM that was supposed to be this friday has been postponed to 15 july, so we will be performing then.

4. Performance during Mother Tongue week on 16 july is not changed.

Other points to take note:

1. Be prepared for additional pracs during W2 and W3 due to lack of time to prepare for the performances in W3. DO NOT ASK ME WHICH DAY. I will inform you once I get the info.

2. Performers for Mother Tongue week need not sign up for a Mother Tongue week activity as the CO activity is counted as one activity. (But you can still sign up for more I think.)

3. Please hand in all excuse letters so far ASAP.

4. Don't forget to check the CO contact list that I have sent out for any wrong info. Reply by this Wednesday 1 July.

So most impt points are that if you have to traveled to a H1N1 affected area should stay away from school for 7 days. No need for excuse letter if you miss prac for this reason, but do inform me beforehand. Also, everybody please bring a thermometer for temperature taking at foyer.

Hey tanbo!!!!

Sectional outing will be held next thursday 18 June after prac till evening about 5 or 6pm! We will be holding a picnic at the botanical gardens and we will proceed there right after prac ends! Everyone will bring some food and we can eat and play games there. :)

Please confirm your attendance with me through sms, email, or tagging on this blog by THIS SUNDAY 14/06. Also please volunteer to bring the items required. I shall list some examples here:

Picnic mat (preferably more than one, cos we have a lot of people)
Food (preferably finger food, but some staple food also needed)
Drinks
Eating utensils (plates, cups, cutlery)
Serviettes/tissue
Rubbish bags (plastic bags)
Games (eg poker cards, balls, frisbee, board games?)

Scores for 火把节 will be sent out asap once I get hold of them. I do not have scores for 瑶族舞曲, so you will only get it when prac starts next thurs. (This is with the exception of pipa - I have sent out both scores already.)

Hi people this will be a short update about open house.

Open house will be on 23rd May, Saturday, and all members are expected to help out. If you are unable to attend on that day please inform me during prac this week.

We have temporarily decided to play 红楼梦序曲 and 塔吉克风情 for our open house performance, so those who have the scores please try to bring them the coming prac on thursday. We will be wearing the costume. Those who performed for open house please check that you still have it, and as for the others you will receive it very soon.

Tanbo is allotted to help with the booth decor part of the preparations, and all of us will be doing this on the preparation day on 22nd may. You will be briefed on this later.

Hmm I think this is all. Thanks to sarah for updating the members list, and volunteering to cut the molou recording to put on this blog. Does anyone know how to upload the entire recording though?

Prac will resume on T2 Wk8 Thurs, ie 14th May, and sec1s will be there too! Thur prac will be normal timing but fri prac may end a bit earlier (cos no dazu). Shall confirm about this at a later date.

CO June Camp will be 24-25 June! [edit: as leevoon mentioned on the tagboard, it is 25-2 june :P] We should be able to stay overnight. :) Actually we might add another day or something (but no overnight) but not yet confirmed! So yes when you book your holidays try to avoid this period!

I am considering having a sectional lunch (or even go catch a movie together or something) before prac resumes. A probable date will be next Fri, 8 May, but sec3s have EL Lit SA during CES. However, I doubt we will have another available day, unless you people want to go on a Saturday? (Reminder: exam period!) So do reply to this...I will confirm by the coming weekend. But anyway if we can't have it now then we will just have to resort to having sectional outing in June hols!

So yep everyone please start discussing about tanbo bonding activities now! Seeing that we'll probably be quite free for the rest of the year. -_- (*whines* I want to learn new dazu songs!) If you want you can also discuss how to teach sec1s and blah! Let's try to keep this place alive k! You can upload photos and all sorts of random stuff! And I'll go bug wenyun for SYF recording then maybe we can put the music up here too to remind us of our wonderful experience together every time we visit this place!

Yep yep SYF is here and finally over. Guess its really so fast right.

Anyway, just wanted to say, I am really very very proud of TANBO! Haha i think tanbo did really well today, in fact the whole of RGCO did well.(:

And i apologise for being so sad and disheartening today. I think a lot of people were triggered off by me and I am really really really very sorry for that.

Ok i am kind of in a lost for words of what to say. (My english is dying and my brain isn't helping). but just really wanted you ppl to know that I Love you guys loads!

Thank you for all the efforts and time you guys put in for SYF and i think our hard work was rewarded, by the fact that today's molou was one of our best orchestra piece. LOVE YOU PPL!(:

As what wang ls said during the recent dazu, what we need the most now is FOCUS and CONFIDENCE. Keep your mind very clear when playing and don't forget what you are playing. And SHOW everyone that you know what you are playing and can play it well.

So yes I shall repeat what i have said before. RELAX, sit up straight, SMILE, and show that you are confident that your music is going to rock down the house.

Oh yes and I almost forgot about this so I shall write another post and respam blog!

IF any of you still have a problem with ganjue, this is what could go on inside your head and make you smile!

CHAN GE:

- Think of dengqing playing with crickets or talking to crickets. And she's nodding her head at the crickets along to the 36161616161616 part XD (sorry dengqing you will be mentioned in much of this post.)

- Kuaiban: for people who haven't seen my chan ge dance, you are welcome to ask sarah for it...

Molou:

- At the beginning you can just think of korean dramas or imagine random people in CO being lost and crawling around in the desert.

- Or you can imagine me being attacked by a desert iguana and starting to scream madly (like I have done before)...

- Or you can imagine random CO people venturing through the desert on camels and seeing an oasis in the distance, and as usual, being the kiasu people that we are, we run toward the oasis just as fast as I run for break during dazu XD

(im sorry this is getting very egocentric)

-during koh's solo you can imagine some very qi1 liang2 scene in a wuxia story - thinks weiyi and dengqing doing some dramatic wuxia thing-

-during kuaiban you can imagine camel racing or something along those lines. or, for dengqing and sarah, what about us running along orchard road to taka? isnt molou a good accompaniment for such a scene...

- or maybe just running for the stupid bus every time we go to orchard la.

Ok sorry I'm very wuliao now but if it works for you (it works for me) you can apply the above ganjue techniques. But if it doesn't just ditch it la I don't think I want anyone to start laughing on stage during syf luh.

Hello tanbo! Shall leave the last pre-syf post to our beloved sl to do the honours...

Two days to syf, so let's chiong and do it, together! (: And like wenyun said...we shouldn't be going up there to solely get our prize (although that is important): we should be going there to enjoy the music and to feel the true essence of the enjoyment of making music, which is one of the highest pleasures in life imho! Let's just remember 1) what we've done in all the pracs so far and the things we need to remember to do at WHAT TIME 2) The time and hard work we put in 3) The people we cannot and will not let down, e.g. our seniors, zhangtianyun laoshi, liu laoshi. These are the people who have worked hard for us so we should do something to show our appreciation for them - and to me the best way is to show them how much we love the music, and how much we have learnt from them. And it will make them proud of us, and make us proud of ourselves. (:

To batch 09: Hey guys, this is it, this is what we've been working for and dreaming of for the past 3/4 years. So let's just go there and bring out all the tanbo spirit and blast the roof of SCH off ((((:

Hey tanbo!

Great job today! We had really great 感觉 and 台风! Even though of course it wasn't perfect but it has improved DRAMATICALLY from how we used to play! And I can see that all of us are really putting in a lot of effort and trying to express our emotions through the music.

Plus we kind of managed to autopilot 漠楼! And it was really not bad. *remembers trying to figure out when to come in for 极限音* It shows that all of us know the song truly well and do listen to what everyone else plays! OMG I AM SO PROUD OF RGCO!!!!

Haha yay so for the next couple of days we can rest a little bit and don't prac super hard like hours each day (unless there are parts that you really need to work on, even though there shouldn't be anymore by now), but i do hope that everyone can practise a little each day by going through certain parts like melody and stuff couple of times and spend perhaps around 30min on 基本功.

We have worked hard for so long and now it is nearly time for the final showdown! Jiayou everyone! I am confident that we can get what we aimed for as long as we perform normally! (Meaning don't freak out onstage...) The most important thing right now is to relax and enjoy the last couple of days left of "chionging" for syf cos I assure you that it will be a very memorable experience in your RGCO life!

Yes so rest well, enjoy yourselves, and don't stress out. We will bring down the house at SCH on tuesday 21st April!

Hi tanbo this is dengqing again to update.

This week till next week's prac schedule:

Thur 3.30-6.30 Dazu KS Chee
Fri 2.30-6.30 Dazu KS Chee
Sat 1.30-6.30 (half an hour break in between) Dazu KS Chee
Mon 3.30-5.30 Dazu KS Chee

Sat and Mon prac are COMPULSORY. NO EXCUSE ALLOWED. If you have third lang exam on monday please try to reschedule it. If you really cannot do so then do approach me or go straight to wenyun/amelia.

After today's dazu I'd to mention some stuff that we should work on now.

蝉歌慢板
-3616 part better phrasing needed: every single time you play 3616 please listen to what you play and make sure that the 音色 and everything sounds nice. next time during dazu you can try to close your eyes and listen to how your notes blend in with the whole orchestra (but of course must still make sure that you are playing correctly). zhongruan remember to be more 柔和, especially since you have so many people it's quite obvious. 齐ness for this part has improved, but there are still times where we don't play at the correct time, so do try to minimise this.
-zhongruan/liuqin running semiquavers part: zhongruan's 弹挑 is a bit "sticky" right now so the tempo is not very steady, so do try to make sure that your every note is clear. must be 柔和 as well, and better phrasing needed (applies to liuqin too). liuqin 音色...we'll see what we can do about it.
-remember that this part we are supposed to sound 朦朦胧胧, so 音色 is very important, as well as evenness of our 弹挑.

蝉歌快板
-problem of 赶拍ing has improved, but tempo still needs to be more steady
-all the semiquaver parts please try to keep to wang ls' tempo cos now we are still quite 不齐, also try to do the dynamics that zhang ls marked out for us.
-generally ok, but we need more 激情, and try to show this in both what you play as well as in your 台风.

漠楼 front part before 拍板 part
-pipa/liuqin 极限音 look at wang ls, cos this part tempo may not be constant, and pipa try to 轮 very quickly, doesn't matter if you have 噪音, don't try to make it sound nice and even please
-the weird chromatic sounding thing (example: bar 7) must be as loud as possible, especially right after liuqin stops the volume tends to drop so try to prevent this, after that the 拉弦 part of course zhongruan, daruan and pipa look at wang ls and do the dynamics that she signals with her hands

漠楼拍板 part
-must have a lot of 台风, especially since there is practically no technique to take note of in these few bars

漠楼 melody
-pipa's accompaniment for xianyue part must be more 集中 and don't 赶. since this part so simple must have more 台风, and i think should move to the melody instead of what we play (cos our notes are kind of boring) and vary your dynamics according to the contours of the melodic line
-when tanbo joins in the melody: now that we have worked on this part for so long i assume that most of us have got the notes down, so now i don't want us to forcus too much on the technical part. instead I'd like everyone to relax and enjoy the music and move to it. it doesn't matter if your don't play as "perfectly" but i want ot see the 感觉 and it is quite obvious when we are tense. example: today i looked over at zhongruan a couple of times and most people were "vibrating" in their seats only. i appreciate the effort to move to the music, but must remember to relax and exaggerate your movement more!

-when zhongruan followed by liuqin/pipa comes in with the melodic line, try to keep tempo constant. zhongruan is ok, but once pipa comes in we tend to start to 赶拍. important to prevent this. another thing is that we need to remember to emphasise on the first note of each bar, i think not everyone is doing it enough. always keep in mind cello's rhythm.
-liuqin/pipa's sub-melodic line with xianyue plus sub-melodic line to suona's melody: tempo not steady and semiquaver parts tend to 赶拍. need to be more 严谨 at this part
-suona's second melodic line, where tanbo plays the cello rhythm: tempo needs to be more steady and emphasise on the first and fourth 拍s, but of course first note must be loudest. try to have 台风 since this part so simple. once suona stops we have to cut our volume significantly, currently we are drowning out xianyue with our super-loud 弹挑s.
-pipa/liuqin melody: have more 台风 and 感觉
-zhongruan rhythm interlocking with cello: must be very sure of the rhythm and tempo, any slight deviation or hesitation is very obvious
-when suona comes in with the melodic line, we must have more 激情 since this is like the final climax. when we end off must work on the layering and gradualness.

last note:
-whatever, but just a reminder to cover your strings to 断 the 音

Overall stuff:
-SIT PROPERLY. only half your butt on the the chair. sit straight. knees together. liuqin/pipa turn your bodies slightly towards the audience
-BE ALERT AT ALL TIMES: once she starts please be focused at all times, don't slouch/look sleepy/whatever not
-HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE: be more sure of what you play and show this confidence through your 台风. also sit straight and lift your chin a little bit.
-SMILE: smile a little at parts like 蝉歌慢板 and maybe a little more at parts like 漠楼 melody
-WORK ON 台风! MUST BE RELAXED AT ALL TIMES! Once you sit down must remember to relax already.

Other than that i think we are ok. From now on during dazu please try to be more focused and remember to sit properly when you play. We only have very few pracs left before syf so we really need to make full use of all the time that we have. We have worked hard for so long and this is the last lap already so let's buck up and sprint through it to our best ability. And overall we do sound good. Really. As long as we polish up the details a Gold with Honours is definitely a possibility. So do have confidence that we can achieve what we aimed for and work hard for the last few days.

Attire for Sat: You can choose to come in culottes or the concert/syf attire, but be warned that you have to wear the concert/syf attire till evening so if you think that you are going to sweat a lot then better change after lunch or something.

Some of us may be disheartened cos we have not yet fully adapted to wang ls, but we have already come so far so don't give up just yet! We have already improved a lot, so we just have to keep on this path and I am sure that we can make it in time for SYF! Seeing that RGS people are so pro at chionging PTs last-minute I believe we can do this too! (Even though yeah not really the same thing but you get what I mean...) So let's have faith that we can do it together as an orchestra and no matter what the results are, we will still be happy with what we have achieved! :)

The schedule is generally correct except for sat's schedule and the time that prac ends for some days. I will confirm it with wenyun asap and inform you people again. For monday and tuesday practice please try your best to come unless you really have something on. I will check if you need excuse letter for tue if you can't make it. If you are groaning that there is a lot of prac be glad that I didn't add prac on wednesday as well. We've only got 6 days to the dhs thing and 16 days to SYF!

And some of the stuff to take note of after this week's prac:

-Must remember to count in your head (but not with your foot) cos wang ls doesn't give the beat so obviously
-Breathe before each time you come in! It helps you with controlling the tempo and it looks good when we do it together. :)
-The part with liuqin and zhongruan alternating liuqin please play louder ad zhongruan play a bit softer. Currently quite off-balance.
-I must commend all of us for the improvement that we made this week as to this part cos there is better 感觉 and we are kind of 齐 even though we are counting on our own. But yeah must continue to improve! :)

蝉歌快板
-Better also with the 赶拍 part, continue to work on it
-But must also work on remembering to play the 扫弦 parts loudly and 集中ly
-Must be 激动! :)

漠楼
-Changes to the 拉弦渐慢 parts

As for what happened this week, I do hope that you people won't be too affected by the change in conductors. Please bear in mind that although not everyone would be happy with the arrangements no one is to blame for it, and what we have to do now is to cooperate as best as we can with wang ls and work hard for SYF. Doubtlessly liu ls has put a lot of effort into working with us over the past few months and we are all very grateful towards her for what she has done for us. And thus some of us may be upset over what has happened, but please do not transfer that into negative feelings towards wang ls. I do NOT want to hear anyone making negative comments about the change in conductors or wang ls herself. As for concerns over her being "biased" against tanbo, if you were there on Sat you should know that that is definitely not true. She is trying very hard to make the best out of this situation, so we ourselves should put in effort too.

And with that said, let us all work even harder in the few days left before SYF. This is not only for liu ls, wang ls, or any of the other instructors and teacher i/cs, but most of all for OURSELVES. To fulfil our personal goals, and to get recognition for our hard work over the years in CO. But of course, it is not only about the results, and even if we don't get what we'd hoped for, all of us would still have gained a lot from this process by working together as a CCA and really bonding through this experience.

So yes jiayou everyone. Let's make the best out of this last few days and leave no regrets of this experience together as RGCO'09. :)

Hello this is the first time I am posting on this blog... I finally dug out the invitation that sarah sent me from my email inbox. :)

Anyway due to the poor attendance during today's xiaozu I decided to post up the points that we should take note of here. Feel free to add on, though. And if you see this please inform those who may not visit this blog (like the juniors) of what they should focus on.

蝉歌-慢板 (bars 18-52)
-most obvious problem: 3616 very 不齐, so please find a way to MAKE SURE that you follow liu ls' beat, even if her speed changes you are expected to follow her. And try not to get affected if the other "section" (as in zr/dr one section and lq/pp one section) screws up because chances are they will need to follow what you play to catch up again.
-phrase everything nicely, including each individual 3616, and the 轮 part, and the part where zr and lq alternate (phrase it such that it follows a curve, like quadratic graphs)
-relax when you play because it affects the sound that comes out (if you are tense everyone can tell)
-the 感觉 for this part is (quote from wenyun) like the awakening of dawn, and refreshing like 雨过天晴. Do try to figure out more on your own.

蝉歌-快板 (bars 57-102)
-for all the "扫弦" parts please ALWAYS remember to play with maximum force and in a 集中 manner cos we tend to only remember to do it for the first 3 bars. Also remember to 捂弦 or let go of the left hand, whichever you are supposed to do.
-十六分 please follow liu ls' speed or else everyone will be playing at different speeds and it will sound super messy
-十六分 please remember to do the dynamic changes that zhang ls marked out for us
-do not 赶拍

漠楼 bars 5-95
-make sure that for all the 渐慢 and stuff we are 齐, LOOK AT LIU LS
-拉弦 remember to press lightly ON the 品 to get the 噪音 kind of sound
-lq/pp 极限音 parts must be 齐

-pp must be very 齐 for 拍面板 part
-伴奏 for erhu melody must be steady and 集中, DO NOT 赶拍
-melody part everyone must relax and work on bigger dynamic contrast because right now we are much too tense and that makes us unable to have much changes in dynamics

xiyuxing is still here, in case you're wondering. i can change it to huoba but you will have to wait till june cos my march hols are officially eaten up. yes. alternatively a nice soul can help me do it.

1. SYF rehearsal is this sunday, please bring your blazer [you will get it today]+ blouse + black skirt +court shoes + tie [uh i'm not sure about this. this is only what i remember from 2 years ago]
2. SYF is on the 21st April, Tuesday. which is in 40 days time so please prac hard for this last month okay. (:
3. in case you still don't know [whereupon if you dare to confess to this i shall knock you on the head, hard] the songs you should be praccing are 漠楼 and 蝉歌. woe betide the blur person who had not the faintest idea. [ok i'm starting to talk weirdly now. i don't ususally blog in that kind of language...]

ok i think that's all. jiayou my dearest tanboyue and prac hard and let's try our best to get the gold with honours no matter how impossible it seems and make our first/last/only syf a great one and make all our teachers/sls/friends/school proud of us :D

okay i originally wanted to be nice and helpful and post up every single detail, stuff like who needs to improve on what and etc. but i realised it could look quite mean unintentionally so i’m going to do a general one. note this may not apply to everybody.

stuff to improve on: [wrt to previous dazus+一个一个来]
-play louder. yeah. zhongruan especially. there’s 8 of you. [while poor pipa+liuqin where there are usually less than 5 people in total]
-play with more gan3jue2. if you want inspiration you can go watch dengqing playing molou [BAR 138] but warning, do not look at her WHILE she’s playing it in dazu cos if she sees you staring at her she is highly liable to smile weirdly at you or do weird funny actions [especially if she’s feeling high or in a funny mood] and you will lose all sense of gan3jue2 you ever had and burst out laughing.
-lun faster. therefore implying, improve on jibengong. relax your hands more. although i know it’s quite hard when you’re nervous.
-MOVE MORE! (: +lift up your hand after each phrase NICELY.
-make sure all your notes are correct [uh, by now they already should be all correct. technically.]
-make sure you know when to come in [jiahui’s molou is kind of helpful for this, just ignore the wrong notes.]
-LOOK.AT.LIU.LAO.SHI. especially our dear ruans who love to ganpai in chan-ge’s 3616. liuqin also should look at lls when it comes to the kuaiban’s high parts. DO.NOT.RUSH.
-improve on coordination [also related to looking at lls], especially the molou part where pipa+zhongruan does the string-plucking thing/the soundboard hitting thing, cos when it’s not together it’s really obvious.

for now i think that’s enough. the finer details we can work on later. provided we have the time. while i don't want to be pessimistic and say we are not up to the standard of even a silver/bronze [which a lot of rgco people seem to be saying nowadays and i know it seems really demoralizing] i can’t exactly say we should expect gold or gwh. okay i don’t mean to pull everyone down. i think i’m waffling. basically what i mean is that it’s not like rgco hasn’t got gold before. we can do it. we’ve been getting gold since 1999 i think. :P so it’s definitely doable! it’s not like this faraway thing that can’t be reached. though it can’t be reached now if we are not going to prac harder than usual.

Stuff that we need to decide on URGENTLY

Ok I don't know how many of you actually check this thing but anyway these are a couple of issues that we really need to discuss.

1. Zhang ls' teacher's day present/celebrations/whatever: I can't remember what we agreed on the other time but anyway we never really went into the details. For presents we can either all give individual presents or tanbo give one big present as a group. Personally i prefer all of us give together. If so we need to decide on what to give also. Do you want to do a board like those we did last time after SYF/concert? Or just a card (big)? And do you people want a "celebration" thing? Like get a cake or balloons or something? And WE HAVE TO DECIDE THIS BEFORE THURS XIAOZU WHICH IS WHEN WE ARE GOING TO DO THIS. So yes hurry up and respond.

2. Tanbo outing during September hols: Yes I want to have an outing cos I think we desperately NEED to bond (especially with new Sec 1s who didn't peform for concert i think you know what I mean). Only thing is that I bet most, if not all, of us are packed with stuff. So I need to know when the most number of people are free to decide which day to hold the outing on. If many of us really can't make it then I suppose we can settle for lunch on one of the prac days (will find wenyun to ask about prac in hols then get back to you people). But IF we manage to schedule a day for outing we need to discuss where to go too! So respond enthusiastically!

Yes so people must must reply about this. For the teacher's day thingy i think we have to confirm everything by tue so that on wed we can stay back or something to get things done. And for the outing thing i will ask the whole section on thurs (hopefully we have time) but we should have some idea about it first before we ask about their opinion. And yeah that's all see you during xiaozu next thurs and jiayou with your exams tomorrow!

hello one and all lovely tanbo-ers! vivian here ^^ this may be a tad late but GREAT JOB for concert. we got 2 encores xDDDDDD RGCO rocked vch on the 20th. even my not-so-music-loving sister said it was awesome and she can hardly keep herself in her seat long enough during concerts, so this goes to show how wonderful we were ;) three cheers for RGCO and tanbo!!!

Yoyo tanbo!

I'm currently mugging for Lit SA which happens to be er on wednesday (and er ahem tomorrow no time to mug so yea you get the picture). Back to the post-concert reality. Back to...RGS. ><

But I trust you all had fun in some way or another on Sunday night. It was truly THE night for RGCO but yeah unfortunate things happened, tempers ran high, all the emotions were overflowing but GUESS WHAT: we DID IT. It was really a successful concert you know. Though we might have made mistakes, played some wrong notes etc, I guess most of us were happy with the songs, xiaozu, dazu and accompaniment all the same. (:

Anyway, have a good break from CO and rest your peeling fingers. :D See you next prac.

In the meantime, whoever wants pictures please please add me on msn because I'm too lazy to get off my butt to upload pictures. Also because er all the PT deadlines are here. (((((:

Heyhey tanbo!

Good going for today's dazu! At least we managed to get through molou but there's STILL a lot of room for improvement. I guess you all know where you should improve, but sometimes the root of the problem is jibengong issues...which can't be solved within a few days. So yes.

Er some last notes!
Liuqin: Take note of clarity of fast notes, and watch your rhythm. Other than that, you're fine.
Zhongruan: Be careful of your dynamics during dazu, just look at conductor a bit more! And yes don't ganpai, really.
Pipa: Reduce the zayin for your lun by lunning lower. Somehow this cheat method seems to work. Look at the conductor, esp for molou. It's ESSENTIAL. We just love to ganpai la.
And yeah watch your high notes for molou: the way you press the pin3. Ganjue also extremely lacking in hongloumeng.

Anyway ah when we play banzou we STILL cannot control the loudness and softness of the stuff we play, so jiayou for that. Huobajie also got this problem. I mean, give the soloists a chance luhh.

The sound of the music we produce is kind of hard and unfeeling sometimes. Learn to relax and listen to what the other sections are playing. It's very important because we're playing as an orchestra, not individuals....

Alright, playing aside:
1) Sleep well before saturday (if possible)
2) Put on facial masks! For people with pimple probems, it will definitely help yes!
3) Don't overstress yourself. Control your emotions and state of mind.
4) Don't tire your wrists out too much.
5) Please don't play until your fingers bleed.

In short, TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF and try not to fall sick, despite all the PTs hahs.
This will most probably be my last post before concert...so I'd just like to tell you people to jiayou, and just go out there and do your best!

hey!

wow its been a really really long time since i last posted on this blog.

anyway, just wanted to say jiayou to all of us! i think we all can do it. i know this sounds as cliche as anything else, but i really must say it. i think tanbo has really been quite bonded ever since realising that concert was ever so near. we have been really enthu (at least i think so xD) and everyone has been putting in lots of effort and improving lots.

let's jiayou for the last week before concert! remember to drink lots of water and not fall sick! as stressed by tienli and sarah too. (: OO and the most important thing is to take care of ur left arm, right arm, left hand, right hand, left hand thumb, right hand thumb, left hand index finger, right hand index finger, left hand.. ok i think u get my point.
oo and we must try to listen more to dengqing ok! i think she is a really brilliant asl that has done a lot for tanbo!! must <3 her lots and give her a hug every time u see her! muahaha in fact give all the tanbo ppl a hug everytime u see them!

Ok so here we are, one week from concert.
I agree with sarah that it's extremely unfortunate to injure anything from your arms to the tip of your fingers. -Remembers how weiyi broke her arm last year-
Anyway, it's good to be realistic, but since we have only one more week.
I might not be in the position to say all of this since I kinda suck but it's ok la just say la.
So, for tanbo in general:

Qinwang:
1) Be careful of dynamic changes. Tanbo,being a banzou section for this song, must be V. CAREFUL of it.
2) Pipa: For the part that we're playing main melody with yangqin, be careful of how you press the notes and don't ganpai.

Tianshan:
1) Prac shiliufen as much as possible. Still sounds like one big mess, but 1 more week so...
2) Banzou please remember to GO SOFTER during koh's xiaodi solo.

Molou:
1) SPEED CHANGES V. OFTEN. REMEMBER TT.
2) Be careful of high notes.
3) Jiayou for liuqin "solo" and pipa "solo" -ahemahemahem-
4) For the kuaiban watch zhenglaoshi for speed at all times.
5) Try to immerse yourself in the song.

Tip:
Imagine a man staggering through the boundless desert, worn-out stick in hand. Insects dart in and out of the sand, their sudden, swift movements attracting his weary gaze. He slips and falls on the sand, and the grains find their way past his chapped lips into his dry mouth, choking him. All of a sudden, he hears the sound of trickling water and he raises his head to find himself staring at a beautiful lake, with many travellers gathering around it. Then he begins to run, faster and faster, slipping and falling in the shifting sands. But when he gets there, he realises that it was just a mirage.

You go relate that to the song la. It's quite interesting even if my description is lousy :X

Hongloumeng:
1) Remember this is a SAD SONG. Imagine the guy dying in a drama and the girl crying. (:
2) Listen to wenyun's notes for the singing, so you don't go off-pitch. And sing sorrowfully.
3) Don't smile like :D :D :D during this song. I know you are all happy girls who can't stop smiling. If you want to cry no one's stopping you but don't let it affect your playing LOL.
4) People playing chords remember to go softer when when we're supposed to.
5) Lun softer at the end for pipa.

Tajike:
1) Give the main melody a chance and go softer when you have to la.
2) This song is er filled with passion. Please look happy.
3) Pipa: garbage can sound not apparent. It sounds like only dengqing is playing it. So, self-note: PLAY LOUDER FOR GARBAGE CAN SOUND.
4) For the small shiliufen parts, just make them clearer.
5) As usual, tanbo LOVES to ganpai so just take note of that.

Huobajie:
1) Remember what zhanglaoshi has told us over godknowshowlong.
2) Pipa: Take note of dynamic changes, saoxians and fanyins. And when you have to huanba please be careful of PRESSING THE RIGHT NOTE.
Liuqin: Dynamics and overall clarity. Moqi with pipa (:
Ruans: Huayin don't bounce. Changlun more clear and smooth, be careful of fast parts as well.

Juhuatai:
1) I know this is an encore song and I bet people are chionging dazu songs and won't prac this -.-
But keep in mind that every song is important including this one. Imagine if the concert is ok UNTIL THE ENCORE. Wah rly embarrassing.

Ok if anyone disagrees or has anything to add, feel free.

And practice hard for concert. Even if you can't make it for prac this week, just put in 1 hour minimum for practice EVERY DAY. We DO NOT have time, and FRANKLY SPEAKING with our standard AT THIS MOMENT we most probably won't be showing the audience an excellent show. If you really think we're going to put up a 110% show I suggest you think again.

Jiayou to everyone. If you try, if WE try, as both individuals, section members and ORCHESTRA members, I believe the standard CAN improve by sunday.

Imagine yourself as a note in a score. Every note has it's own tone, it's own unique sound. But in order for that piece of music to be coherent, EVERY note has to show itself in it's full glory.
Just like us.
Right now I see us as a piece of music, in which the notes just come out randomly, without any link.
Make that link, won't you?

Hello tanbo.

You heard what Cassandra said today.
I must admit it really got me down. I don't think I saw it the way she probably intended us to see it. I really admit I felt lousy, and I wonder if any of you felt that way too.
But I hereby apologise for being a bad senior. And being noisy during dazu and all.
However, I trust that as a section, RGCO tanboyue is going to make it.
Against all odds.

Though you people might be demoralised by standard issues, or purely because of comments, don't worry. I'm trying as well, but I'd just like to say after one night of contemplation: SERIOUSLY, HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF. It is ESSENTIAL that you remember that whatever it is: YOU DON'T SUCK.

And I have some random comments to make on ganjue. I think that a certain individual aka known as Dengqing the ASL is very expressive. (: I know that the dazu songs this time aren't exactly those that can move you to tears (with the exception of hongloumeng), but just try to imagine some funny pictures in your brains. Like er. Okay never mind I shall spare you people my weird thoughts. But the bottome line is that we have to move more. Not so violently that our qins whack into each other, but more of a form of swaying to the beat of the music. I think you get what I mean.

As for huobajie, we seriously prac until cannot prac already. I wouldn't say we have reached the highest standard yet: far from it. But I think everybody has been doing their best, and trying their best to give CO their all.

Let's SHOW IT TO THEM, show the comm, show RGCO, and the entire audience at VCH just what RGCOTBY is made of. Come on, I'm VERY SURE all of us can do it, if we have that TACIT UNDERSTANDING and co-operation.
I'm sure you don't want to let yourself down. I'm very sure that some of our egos have been dragged through the dirt too many times, that we've been slammed too many times to want to suffer public humiliation.
I know I'm not in any position of authority and you might be thinking I'm mad for ranting here, but it's just my thoughts la. Sorry for being extra lor.
Some comments about each instrument. Not that I can do all of it, just something for consideration. I hope that none of you will take offense to the comments below, and if you have any objections, feel free to trash it out during xiaozus.

Pipa:
1) Zheng qi problems. We need to LOOK at dengqing, especially for huobajie. And please improve on your fan yins.
2) Shiliufens: Not possible improve much within two weeks, but as much as possible, try to make the notes crisp and audible.
3) Be careful of dynamic changes esp. in dazu songs.
4) Look at conductor.
5) Try to memorise scores as much as possible.
6) Do not talk/laugh during dazu. (SELF NOTE AGAIN.)

Liuqin:
Overall not much problem (because er I don't learn liuqin. Sarah you want to elaborate? )
Except that during huobajie there are some times when pipa and liuqin are not qi2, so must mutually listen. Jiayou for molou liuqin part.

Ruan:
I think you all really improved a lot since the start of the year so -clapclap- But yep just some layman comments, please don't take offense : fanyin in huobajie still sounds a bit funny, and sometimes in dazu cannot really hear you all, esp. for molou when pipa listens to you all to remember when to come in. Special mention for michellin for being praised by wangmama multiple times. Good going, jiayou.

I really should be doing HSSRP, but I thought this was interesting.

haha! as the title says this shall be about open house! [and other random things]

okay in open house busking duty we played this really really wide variety of songs, although the most popular was obviously tianshan, from beginning to end only without the dagu solo. as though we didn't play enough of tianshan in ccao o.0 but anyway. then there's this part where liuqin and dizi play together [ie the 2343 232176] and the bangdi wasn't there and i was the only liuqin. oh well it can be guessed, i messed it up completely >< and we played hongloumeng and huahaoyueyuan and qinwang and...okay i can't remember what else we played. haha. and we watched the concert video 06. haha listening to changdi was so...oh well i can't explain the feeling i got. sort of happy and sad and nostalgic and enthusiastic all at once. and i tried to play along. o.0 i don't remember anything already! XP

okay i shall upload my open house pics another day because i can't find the hole for the memory card on my aunt's comp.

the open house performance was okay i suppose, but we gan pai-ed for quite a lot and qinwang in particular, but more or less okay, although my personal opinion is that tianshan wasn't one of our better tianshans >< and only ONE block of the kschee seats were filled up. ONE. like only one?! so sad. and that means around 10 families or so. oh my goodness so SAD.

i am currently sitting in front of the tv which my parents are watching o.0 and there's this person playing the dizi and obviously NOT playing it. haha.

Tienli is currently stoning in front of the library computer and blogging very illegally with her handphone (ALSO ILLEGALLY) on her lap and incidentally switched on. Tienli is also very pissed off at her bad results and is very emo now. But tienli is bored and because of lit is significantly happier now because for once she did not screw up something so badly. Meanwhile other people are suffering in the kschee, being squashed like dead rats and receiving their physicschem papers while tienli gloats. (:

Meanwhile jiahui has arrived (: And is now standing next to me looking very curiously at the screen and has just discovered that there is a tanbo blog. (: "Omg tienli stop it" And as she has just run off I am currently very confused and feeling lonely again COUGH.
): I realise that I'm really talking nonsense here but...

in order to add urself as an author, first sign in to the blog through the tanbo one.
then go to settings, under permissions
then u will see this invite thing lah.
isn't it so easy! yay hehe

Hmm actually can this blog be a place to give comments on dazus/ advertise concerts/ put up notices/ put up pictures/ put up CO related music/ (and if you must, like yours truly is CURRENTLY DOING:) talk nonsense! Hahaha and please leave a tag before you go, at least the people who post won't feel like they're talking to thin air -ahem-
And can someone enlighten THIS STOOGE HERE (aka me) on just HOW to add myself as an author so I don't have to type my name at the bottom of every post...it sucks leh.
Hmm just to comment on dazu...it wasn't too bad even though I was falling asleep and tanbo got suanned a few times...overall I could say we didn't screw up too badly! But everyone JIAYOU FOR SECTIONAL PIECE NEXT WEEK, we're gonna show WLS what we've got eh (: This year's sectional piece is significantly easier than last year's, seeing that not as much emotion is required and the notes are rather easy unlike the siao 10lianyins that were existent in xi yu xing....haha (: Yep and if ZLS is right about the competition tanbo may be taking part in at year end, or lulu about the -ahem- official performance then yea we must perfect this song k. We're not really there yet but we're close (:

we are having a tanbo outing today(: after the math ra paper. math seems to have a 缘分 with tanbo outings 0.0 okay nevermind. but it was SOOO HARDDD. i died. this is the ghost of me typing XDD so now i'm waiting for the rest of you slowpokes to get here. XD okay yes i know we were only going to meet at 12.

and i am currently sitting in class trying to get a huobajie i downloaded onto the iwebmusic thing so we can have it as background music. i think it's too big. >< and i am also trying to do THE SONG. ((: at least, some of it.
